Everything an Indian student needs to know before applying for MBBS in Russia — in the order it actually happens.
Studying medicine abroad involves a sequence of academic, legal and travel steps that must happen in the right order. This guide walks through the whole journey so you know exactly what is coming next, what it costs you in time, and what PRS UniBridge handles on your behalf.
Before anything else, confirm you meet the NMC requirements: at least 17 years of age by 31st December of the admission year, a minimum of 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Class 12 (40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates), English as a subject, and a qualifying NEET-UG score. A qualifying score is enough — Russian government universities do not require a high rank.
Compare universities on recognition, city, cost of living, climate and the size of the existing Indian student community — not only on fees. Every university must be listed with the NMC, the WHO and in the World Directory of Medical Schools, otherwise you will not be eligible to appear for FMGE / NExT when you return.
Your application goes to the university with scanned copies of your Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, NEET scorecard and passport. Make sure your passport has at least 18 months of validity remaining — renewing it mid-application is the single most common cause of delay.
Once the university accepts your application it issues an official invitation letter, usually within 2 to 4 weeks. This letter is what the Russian embassy needs in order to process your student visa, so nothing else can begin until it arrives.
Your academic documents need attestation and apostille before the visa file can be submitted, along with a medical fitness certificate including an HIV test report. The student visa itself typically takes 3 to 4 weeks from a complete submission.
Book flights only after the visa is stamped. Attend a pre-departure briefing, carry your original documents in hand baggage, and exchange enough currency for your first month. Direct flights from Delhi to Moscow take around 6 to 7 hours.
On arrival you will be received at the airport and taken to your university hostel. Within your first week you must complete migration registration, a university medical check-up, and collect your student ID. A local SIM card makes all of this considerably easier.
The programme runs six years — five academic years plus a one-year internship. Plan your FMGE / NExT preparation from the fourth year rather than the final year. After clearing it you can register with the NMC or a State Medical Council and practise anywhere in India, or pursue USMLE, PLAB and other international licensing routes.
